Walk through an independent auto repair shop on a Tuesday and the operating reality is identical at most shops. Pitfalls

Do not let Copilot or Claude touch customer PII without proper licensing. Use the enterprise tier where prompts and outputs are not used for training. Verify in the contract.

Do not paste fleet contract data into the consumer-tier free models. Same data-handling reason.

Do not skip the prompt library. Without a shared library, every writer is reinventing prompts. Spend the time on day 8 to build it.

Do not over-rely on AI for judgment calls. Closing a fleet account, firing a tech, replying to a 1-star review — these are owner-judgment work. AI drafts; owner decides.

Do not break HazCom or OSHA recordkeeping. AI maintains the SDS library and training-record reminders, but the foreman still owns 29 CFR 1910.1200 compliance.

Q: Is Copilot or Claude better for auto repair? A: They complement each other. Copilot for M365 wins on Office workflows (Outlook, Excel, Teams). Claude wins on long-form copy and shop-voice estimate captions. Most shops use both.

Q: Do I need to train my staff? A: Yes — 90 minutes per role, then a 30-day adoption window. Skipping training drops adoption to under 25%.
